Renato Casaro was born on October 26, 1935. In his hometown of Treviso, he combined his passion for painting and cinema from a very young age. In the local 'Cinema Garibaldi' he painted the large cinema hall with movie motifs - in exchange for some free tickets for himself and his friends. The murals attracted the attention of Lux-Film, which took him to Cinecittà (the historical movie studios in Rome) at the age of 19. There he quickly made a name for himself. Just two years later, at only 21, Renato set up his own business as a painter of movie posters.
Casaro's posters for Sergio Leone's 'Dollars Trilogy' and 'The Bible: In the Beginning' (produced by Dino de Laurentiis) dominated Los Angeles' Sunset Boulevard for weeks, and Casaro became one of the world's most in-demand poster designers. His precise and fast way of working earned him the nickname Renato does it fast."
Casaro works closely with film-directors, producers and actors when creating his works. Due to his success, a number of genres are now closely associated with Casaro's name. Over the years, he not only created the iconic posters for Sergio Leone's films, but also for many international productions with stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Costner and many others. In addition, over a period of 25 years, he painted countless posters for the films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, which today enjoy cult status among fans. Casaro got along so well with Spencer and Hill, that the three formed a lifelong friendship.
From the mid-1990s, the film industry shifted toward more affordable computer-made film posters, making Casaro's work less and less in demand. Casaro however never gave up painting. He continues to paint posters for the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg, Circus Krone, and Circus Roncalli.
In 2019 he painted several fictional movie posters for Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', and this year he also picked up the brush again for a Terence Hill motif. For the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Don Matteo', he will paint the cover motif for a special edition!
